Half Dome hike – a goal realized

Last year, I met a man who is the blogging king. Blogging has taken off as the hot medium for communication of ideas to interested groups. You are reading my attempt at the craft. Bill Belew of Sunnyvale, has spent years building his 10 world-wide blogs that now attract over a million readers each. That is no typo. He has crafted a way for creative writers to earn money by attracting sponsorship ads while sharing quality information.

To the point. Bill approached me in my role as Mr Half Dome to help get him to the top of the monolith. A goal. A journey. He is no slouch, having completed many triathlons, marathons and ultra-marathons; albeit years and 40 pounds ago. So we trained. I lent him poles, a fanny pack, Nalgene bottles and even a spare pair of boots. For weeks he “paid the price” of getting his hiking legs into their former shape. I even gave him a weighted vest for his training hikes. Try going for 3 hours up and down Mission Peak’s 1800 feet with an extra 16 pounds strapped on. Then do it again.

On June 18 at 12:44 pm I snapped this photo of him on the Visor.

A goal realized. He’s given me my gear back but I hope he hits the store and makes the joy of hiking part of his life. If you’ve thought about blogging, you can get his book, go to one of his Bay Area meet-ups or take a class at billbelew.com

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.  Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.  The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.”John Muir
