Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
The local paper in my burg, the SJ Murky News, had a short blip recently. Talked about the “New environmentally friendly Habitat Store” in the main Yosemite Village. It’s due to open May 26, but I spent the last 2 weekends there and was all over the place and did not see it. The Visitor Center and YA store all looked the same to me. Supposedly products for sale will include: T-Shirts made from recycled plastic (don’t get near a flame), toys made from soy (guess you could eat them if hungry), solar powered water bottles with a flashlight (don’t rely on that down the JMT at midnight) and tables made from recycled stuff. Funny how one volcano in Iceland can negate a lot of carbon saving projects.
HOT – The Mist Trail to the top of Vernal Fall has opened for the season. The upper section of the John Muir Trail, “The Ice Cut”, and the Four Mile Trail remain closed. The Vernal Fall drinking fountain and the flushing restrooms located at the Vernal Fall Foot Bridge are open. Input/output. And for you cowpokes, the the Valley Stables are now open. Three daily rides will be offered – 9:00 a.m., noon and 3:00 p.m.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Well, who are you? I really wanna know. Tell me, who are you? ‘Cause I really wanna know. . . Who are you? Who, who, who, who?” – The Who
