A fire is burning in the Little Yosemite Valley area. This flat ground is just above Nevada Fall and the Merced River flows along it. The fire is at 400 acres burned. Mostly lodgepole pines are at risk.  It’s believed to be a remnant of a lighting strike several days ago.

Seven helicopters, three air tankers, and HOT SPOT crews are working it. It is being called “The Meadow fire.”

Due to the smoke and danger of it spreading, visitors are cautioned that Half Dome and the upper Mist Trail to Nevada Fall are closed. Other trails in that area are also closed.  The trail from Sunrise Lakes Trailhead to Sunrise Lakes and Sunrise Lakes High Sierra Camp, and the trails from the camp to the trail along the Merced River east of Little Yosemite Valley, are closed.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Those forest reserves are not merely for the convenience and benefit of the people near them, but they are the property of the nation.” – John Muir
