Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Today I have a neat gift idea for your youngster. Time is running out for that special Christmas package– read this through and place an order to ensure it gets into Santa’s Bag. In fact, you may even consider getting one for yourself. For as low as $47.00 at Amazon.com you can get EyeClops Night Vision 2.0 Infrared Stealth Binoculars. That’s a mouthful. We’re talking about a real infrared “binocular” type device. Last year I contacted JAKKS Pacific of SoCal. I obtained the 1.0 version to evaluate for possible use night hiking. That Eyeclops was a head mounted contraption that made me look like a Cyborg. It only had one viewing eyepiece. It had a 5 AA battery pack that fit on the back of your head. But it did work and was way cheaper than “real” night goggles. Anyway, the new 2.0 model looks fun and a big improvement. It has the same optics and power supply but is housed in a hand held solution. It really works. You can see up to 50 feet in complete darkness with REAL night vision technology! The image feeds 2 high contrast dual-eye LCD displays. While the binoculars make it a cinch to see in the dark, the relatively small field of vision makes it dangerous to run while looking through them. I think they could be a cheap way to see on a midnight hike up the Half Dome trail. A bit more weight to carry, but you can be assured of spotting critters or Sasquatch lurking about.
