George Miller is U.S. Representative for California’s 11th congressional district. He has seniority, having been reelected for over 30 years. He’s a Democrat representing the Martinez, CA area.
If you recall, that is where John Muir home is located. Miller has introduced what should be a rubber stamp bill. It is to expand the John Muir National Historic Site by 44 acres.
This land is being donated and unless there are substantial negatives, it should go through. I’ve been to the site and on one side are town buildings and to the other hills. There was no word as to what the land would be used for. Muir had a farm there, but he seemed to always be on the road.
The result would be that the Secretary of the Interior could legally take possession to the land. The site is currently managed by the National Park Service. The house is 10,000 sq ft and was built in 1882.
Muir used a bedroom as his office and he called it his Scribble Den. His wife died in 1905, and Muir in 1914. Their two daughters, Wanda and Helen, later sold the house. NPS has controlled it since 1962. The property is at 4202 Alhambra Ave, Martinez, CA
