Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
You’ve not seen this view of the big guy unless you have hiked up Cloud’s Rest. The 7-hour Round Trip up is best done from Tenaya Lake. The trek is pretty mellow as you head towards Sunrise Camp. The trail passes by 3 water sources including a large pond, so you’ll have plenty to hydrate with. The climb up the spine of Could’s Rest is pretty hairy with maybe only about 10 feet of clearance before you’d fall down into oblivion. When you get to the top, you are treated to this view. Pardon the lack of clarity, but my Casio digital is on MAX zoom. You are looking at Sub Dome and the faint line is the cable route up the backside of Half Dome. If you have eagle eyes, you could make out hikers going up the cables. Neat. Also clearly visible is the Visor to the right. The steepness is certainly emphasized in this view.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “You know that it would be untrue. You know that I would be liar, if I was to say to you, girl we couldn’t get much higher. Come on baby light my fire – try to set the night on fire.” – The Doors
