Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Get or Give Half Dome permits<HERE>

<<Cables come down Oct 12>>

On my last hike I passed several hikers coming my way. I glanced up and offered a friendly “Hiya.” All I got back was a blank face staring straight ahead. The people with ear buds jammed in  could not hear my greeting. Not just once but several times. Normally, fellow hikers can muster a “Hi back” reply and a smile.

Even one person in our group had music going in her head all day. I got to know everyone pretty well but her.  It made me think about an article I read that said humans are getting too much constant bombardment from stimuli. Seems our brains actually use the down time to get the cranial house in order. It works on plans, figures out solutions and just chills out the synapse. I am beginning to agree. I try to make use of the quiet 4-hour drive to Yosemite. Sure, I play a few tunes but just meditating listening to the rubber rolling sets me at ease. If we are constantly filling “idle time” with iPODs, MP3’s, radio, YouTube and Facebook, we never get a break. Don’t get me wrong I get a nice walking pace going to Jimi Hendrix or Pink Floyd, but to hike in solitude is a nice way to cover ground.

And now a word from our sponsor. If you subscribe to this blog, you get it without the annoying ads from Google. WordPress sticks them in without my permission if you just pop it open. I’d like to avoid pandering thru ads. You can help the cause by patronizing my webiste Store. I thank all of you who have bought TShirts. I did not like the bland shirts the park sells so I made up my own design. To convince you, I took a shot of the “I made it to the top” TShirts in the Valley Store.

Boring

Zoom in to see some real snoozers. When I wear mine at the park, I have a lot of folks asking where to get one.  If you’ve been to the top you need to get one. I just had another case made up form my USA supplier. Impress your friends at the Bocci Ball court.

With or without Laffing Mr Bones

I have both designs in most sizes, so email me first to confirm. I can’t ship them from Sep 27 to Oct 9 since I’ll be in the Mediterranean. Proceeds go to feeding Little Yosey (as in Yosemite).

"I wish he had a TShirt to fit me!"

I like the royal blue shirt with yellow and white dome. Print skeletor and the geologist’s quote on the back. Priceless! Will you make one for me?

Even fast food signs affect our thinking. Simply seeing images of the M arches and other icons makes people feel hurried. Studies show people will even read faster as their minds get racy with a sense of urgency.

I wonder how the permit process has cut into t-shirt sales If you can’t get to the top on weekends…
