Drones illegal at Yosemite | No filming of Half Dome ascents

Yosemite is officially reminding visitors that there is a law on the books that prohibits flying Unmanned Aircraft Systems (aka Drones) in park boundaries due to

The use of drones within the park boundaries is illegal under all circumstances.  The law says, “delivering or retrieving a person or object by parachute, helicopter, or other airborne means, except in emergencies involving public safety or serious property loss, or pursuant to the terms and conditions of a permit” is illegal.  This applies to drones of all shapes and sizes.

While a real Predator drone was from via controllers in SoCal to assist in the great Rim Fire, personal and commercial drones are a no-no. Many folks have been zipping these devices up with GoPro Cameras attached to snag some pretty neat views of climbers and mountain tops.

Kite flying is still legal.
