Half Dome’s nominee for the Darwin Award

Charles Darwin was the great British scientist who came up with the theory that the fittest of a species survives and adapts to its environment. He did most of his work with the finches of Galapagos.

There is a group that annually presents their choice for the human Darwin Awards. Fellow beings who probably will be left behind as we inch forward in the space-time continuum.

There is a slab of granite that sticks out off the top of Half Dome and resembles a diving board. (The real name is “Visor) I have seen a man attempt to do a hand stand on it. But there is one candate for the Darwin Award that is a shoo-in. I found one source that tells of a day when a man hung from the edge of this slab and did pull-ups.

I have not confirmed this, but I fer shure would not want him piloting my plane as we leave LaGuardia and bank over the Hudson! Score one for Darwin!

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “I’m a Neanderthal man. You’re a Neanderthal woman. Let’s make Neanderthal love in this Neanderthal world.” – 10cc
