Miss Half Dome?? Watch the free app

Two years ago I made a free Half Dome app for Everytrail.com. They are owned by Trip Advisor. It’s very comprehensive with a ton of info about the trail, photos, videos. I met a man who actually had his iPhone and was using it along the hike.

It’s been viewed over 200,000 times. That’s no typo – 200K. Whew. I spent a lot of time building it and hope you take the time to download it. Did I say FREE? – yup! It’s all part of the sharing of info. It’s going to be dark for 4 months until we can scramble to get permits for the late May opening. There may be some changes to the current lottery to allow MORE people to do the hike. As I find out, I’ll blog about the news.

Autumn at the Yosemite is very mellow. But carry chains; mountain weather can change rapidly. Think about heading up mid-Fed for the Horsetail Fall orange glow phenomenon.

Carpe Diem.

I absolutely cannot thank you enough for this app! Three friends and I just made the summit yesterday and it was absolutely life-changing. Next time will absolutely take the advice about bringing poles… Knees will be showing the damage for a while.

The maps with GPS were incredibly helpful as were the photos to show waypoints. Loved reading the factoids included to my friends as we went. I brought my phone along as we went and used the app during! We actually took JMT up then Mist back which made for a bit longer morning.

Friends: be prepared (flashlights, layers, snacks, electrolytes), avoid carrying all your water (it’ll be better to treat some from the Merced river), take it slow, and ENJOY THE VIEW.

    • Thanks for the feedback. It was fun making the app. I’m glad you used it while hiking. That was the goal…so you could learn as you were hiking.

Yes, poles make a big difference.

Folks – go to Everytrail.com and search for Half Dome…it’s a free app. I cover A-Z – all HD and nothing but!
