I’m at the best Y park this week. Not to crowed but a lot of Euros here. I’ve run into a few Half Dome friends.
I got a 2-day mini-lottery permit for tomorrow. Going up with Roger S. of Irvine. A loyal blog reader. We are in Tent cabin 747 – a new one at the edge of Curry….nice an quiet and closest to the trailhead. Early start. Smells a bit like rain tonight.
The NPS is bringing in a heavy lift helicopter tomorrow to remove the crashed Mooney that went down in December. It was found by a hiker who notified the park.
the Merced River Plan was the subject of a Congressional hearing today. The MRP caught a lot of arrows. Representative Tom McLintock was the main man. he is from the Tuolumne area. Many are baffled why the park does not want rental rafting, bicycles and closing many facilities. The park is responding to a Court Order to come up with ways to protect the rive due to the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. A true rock and a hard place. The park got 30,000 comments and are requesting that they get an extension of the due date to July 31.
