News

As the nights get colder and visitor traffic decreases, several of the park facilities are shutting down. Lower Pines Campground closes October 29. North Pines will close for the season on November 5.

Housekeeping Camp is already closed.  If you have dirty socks, they are keeping the laundry open through the winter from 8 in the morning to 10 at night. Washy washy.

NOW is the time to book your accommodations for 2013. Yes, now. Hard sided and Curry tent cabins can be reserved a year in advance. Snag that Ahwahnee Room. Book them now – you will be charged the first night, but it is refundable within 7 days. Then, when the Half Dome lottery is open, you can shoot for those dates.

I’ll be doing a book signing at the Valley Bookfest in Manteca this Saturday. I give a talk at 12:30 in Bass Pro. The History of Half Dome. Yall come now, ya’ hear?

Carpe Diem

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed. A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed, then one day he was shootin’ at some food, and up through the ground came a bubblin’ crude.” – Beverley Hillbillies theme
