When the Romans hiked Halfus Domus, they too, had to pay tribute to Ceasar. Many had no passes to allow safe passage so they sought out citizens of the Empire who had extra tablets to allow them to visit the Domus. In the days of old, it was common for false tablets to be foisted upon the unsuspecting. Legions of Centurions were sent out to apprehend the purveyors of deceit. To the alarm of many, those who attempted to climb the sacred Domus were rebuffed by the gods and sent back to their village. Thus the phrase Caveat Emptor – Buyer Beware still lives into the 21st Century.
The moral? Be very wary of any QUOTE permits UNQUOTE you may be trading for or paying for from the the unseen person at the other end of the internet cable. The permits are extremely easy to counterfeit. A decent scanner, a common word processor and copy machine can turnout legit looking Half Dome permits. So if a bad guy wants to make a bundle all he has to do is buy one permit and forge several look-alikes. They do it with Green cards and driver’s licenses. He will be in the Bahamas while you are being told you can’t go up Half Dome this summer because you have a bogus permit. I would get a copy of their driver license and make sure your process server can find him to sit before the judge in small claims court. Or don’t – and good luck with the Nigerian fortune waiting for your reply. Caveat Emptor
