Call to Action

Friends, Romans and Countrymen:

As I sit here recuperating after kissing the pavement, I need a goal. So I have agreed to give a pretty nice talk I developed called: “Half Dome – A Historical Perspective.” It’s totally FREE and is part of the Library’s ongoing history presentation program. It will be next Sunday the 13th (Not the 12th as I screwed up announcing before) at 2 pm at the Livermore Public Library. For your GPS set to 1188 S. Livermore Ave.
Livermore, CA 94550.

So here’s the deal. This crummy weather gets us all down. The Half Dome hike is closed for 6 months so we have to do stuff to keep the interest up. If you have done the hike, you surely are developing the same passion I have. If you are planning on doing it, you will benefit by learning as much about it as you can. I hope you had a chance to view the YouTube I blogged about yesterday. Believe me, I have read most of the ancient scrolls about Yosemite and have culled the Half Dome Epistle to the Ephesians down into a 1-hour presentation. I have a lot of neat archival photos to share.

So, your call to action: if you can make the drive over, please attend. Mrs. Dome is going to drive me from San Jose-by-the-sea as I hold my ribs together to give the talk. It will be a while until I can drive again. And I may have to remain seated during the talk using my green laser pointer to highlight the cool things.

So – deal?  I’ll bring a stack of new Yosemite Gazette’s along. Peace.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “I don’t want a pickle; just want to ride on my motorsickle. And I don’t want a tickle. ‘Cause I’d rather ride on my motorsickle. And I don’t want to die – I just want to ride on my motorcy…cle. – Arlo Guthrie

That road to Bode is way out in the hinterlands too! Ever think of that Richard Starky song “I GET BY WITH ALITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS?” Any time I have had a sudden accident, I have been thankful just to be all in one piece. It would be so easy to lose an eye, a finger, even a face. Don’t want to do a Hank Williams JR!

I totally agree, David. I was really lucky in many respects. Helmet worked as advertized and my full padded suit surely helped. Glad my buddies were there to haul me out as the gas dripped – they turned the ignition off.

Be careful the next time you do the motorcy… Cle. Just curious, how much damage to tje Harley? $5G?

IF I do the cycle thing again. This has been hard on the body and on my wife. We shall see. I really like doing the long rides….did 3,000 miles to Utah parks in 2010, 3,000 to yellowstone in 2011 and about 2,000 at Sturgis SD in 2009. Dang, one little skid out and life changes…i was very lucky in many respects. NO abrasions at all…thanks to full padded suit – and full face helmet…. the noggin is fine. I hope my knee does not affect Half Dome in 2012.

the total repair bill was $15K.Bike went down a ravine about 8 feet upside down. I’m sure the winch out ripped it apart a lot. But they even billed a new battery amd air filter. Hmmmm. Oh well, I only rent and always get the top coverage…so only $1,000 deductible. The tow bill was $1600. Submitting to AAA for some reimbursement. I have the 100 mile PLUS cvoerage due to my classic cars.

      Thanks for your interest.
