Bus crashes 40 miles south of Yosemite on Hwy 41

A tour bus with 15 passengers, a guide and the driver ran off the road on Hwy 41, 40 miles south of Wawona Saturday. He was estimated as going 40 mph – the speed limit is 35 there. The bus careened down into a ravine, tossing the people around.  It was stopped when it hit a tree.

All but the driver had injuries of some sort. They were taken to local hospitals. CHP has been investigating the cause Sunday and will continue. The bus has been towed to an impound lot and will be gone over to see if there was a mechanical issue. Alcohol and drugs were  not suspected.

The passengers were mostly elderly people who were jostled when the bus went off the highway. It occurred about 6 pm, well before sunset. Most of the passengers were older Chinese-Americans.

They were all taken to local hospitals. CHP is investigating the cause. The bus was only going 40 mph. The driver was not hurt.
