Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

See this NPS Press Release <HERE>.

Yosemite National Park officials today said “it is doubtful that the cables will be ready for use by the Memorial Day weekend” because of too much snow on Half Dome and the Subdome.

Here’s hoping they’re up by June 21…. I don’t want to have to wait in the jet-pack line. 🙂

Hope they are up by June 13. When were the cables up last year?

  4. Norman S says:

I was in Yosemite yesterday with my grandson. Here’s an update on the impact the snow and water is having on the trails.

Between Clark’s Pt & Register Rock, JMT is open, but a half dozen sections were covered in snow up to three feet deep.

JMT between Clark’s Point & Nevada Fall is closed, requiring hikers at Nevada Fall to go down the Upper Mist Trail. From the Nevada Fall end before you get to the closed gate, sections of the JMT were underwater.

Going to LYV, a fallen tree (just beyond the Y junction) has not been cleared by the Park Service. In sections, the trail was under five feet of snow.

I can only imagine how much more snow there must be on the way to HD

So, will the elevator be operational?
