Bodie crunch

Saturday afternoon I crashed my motorcycle. I was heading into Bodie state park when I did not negotiate a hard left turn. the cycle slipped under me and went down a ravine. I rag-dolled and slid into a boulder then down the ravine. Broke collarbone, 8 ribs and knee. Now at Mammoth Hospital. 2 other guys were with me. Wife drove over from San Jose.  Plan is to ride home Sat.

It was a rental big Harley Electra Glide…850 pounds.  I had full coverage so I only owe them $1,000

Bad luck. Glad you the damage was not worse, but it doesn’t sound too good. I hope you make a full recovery quickly.

Things could have been a LOT worse. I hope you single people have a back up plan for when “stuff” happens like this. I’m really pushing that “sickness and in health” button.

Rick, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

thanks…5 more weeks to go. I’m counting last week as the “6 weeks of pain.” Send me a guest blog or you’ll hear more cry baby stuff from me!

I am relieved to hear that you didn’t do more major damage.

I hope you get the best physical therapy and range of treatments for that knee, so that it get close to 100% restored.
Not a bad time to hibernate a bit.

Sounds very painful. Gratified to hear that you are still breathing, and recovering nicely. Get will soon and I will look forward to hearing about your next trip up the rock.

I am glad that you are okay, best wishes on a speedy recover. I have been there, crashed two motorcycles in the last ten years, it happens. There are those that have gone down, and those that are going to go down. Welcome to the club. Mammoth hospital, i was there when i cut my finger to the bone backpacking two years ago. Mammoth hospital feels like a long ways away, when on the road there. Heal fast. Best wishes

Wow, twice?? I got a lot of thinking to do. The idea of having this kinda of bonk 500 miles from home scares me. What would you do? Live in a hospital or Motel 6 til you could get home? My padded garb paid off….no abrasions at all. Check out the photo on today’;s blog…a big hunk of grantie to greet me. Pretty solid! But I could have landed into a brach and got skewered. Or been alone and become coyote dinner. Whew.
