Half Dome – Yosemite Musings

Next time you’re at Yosemite, stroll by Camp 4.This is the overnight site for big wall climbers. This patch of dirt is the gathering place of most of the parties who climb El Capitan and the other sheer walls of the park. It’s fun to see the hard-core and wanna be’s living in their  vans and Subaru’s. Camp 4’s Columbia Rock is a 40 foot tall hunk that got plunked down by a glacier thousands of years ago. It has become a goal of the “bouldering” cult.  There is a route to the top that is called “Midnight Lightning.” This irregular crack seems to be one of the few ways to get to the top. See see how it’s done, click <HERE> and I’ll take you to National Geographic’s Adventure site. In a short video, world-class climber Tommy Caldwell scampers effortlessly up midnight lightning. Pretty impressive. Give it a try next trip!

Unrelated thought worth quoting: "I saw her walkin' on down the line. You know I saw her for the very first time. A pretty little girl standin' all alone. "Hey, pretty baby, can I take you home?" I never saw her, never, ever saw her. My baby does the hanky panky." - Tommy James & the Shondells
