The prestigious sturgisjournal.com did a survey and the results put these 4 parks on their list of the top venues for hikers. We all know the first three but do you know where Acadia National Park is? I do because I spent a year in the Air Force in Northern Maine – not lobsters, but potatoes and forests – ever hear of Caribou? 4 hours north of Acadia. Yeah, chill factors down to -30 & snow on Memorial Day . . . but I digress.
Acadia is down in South Central Maine, near the scenic Bar Harbor. It was the first National Park East of the Mississippi, so named in 1919. Mt Cadillac is the highest point on the east coast – at a whopping 1,532 ft. During many times during the year, it is the first USA point to get hit by sunrise.
I’m grateful to live in California – Yosemite is a 5 hour drive.
