Ansel Adams

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

My old buddy, Ansel Adams is in town. Well, his works of photography are. These are originals made off his plates decades ago. Not repros. Where? My home town of San Jose. (California – NOT Costa Rica!). The show is now running at the San Jose Museum of Art. The museum is the only West Coast stop for this nationally touring exhibition of 50 vintage photographs by Adams. The show, “Ansel Adams Early Works,” will run through Feb. 28. Photographs are dated from the 1920s to the ‘50s; most are drawn from private collections. He lived at Yosemite for a decade. One of his best, “Monolith: the Face of Half Dome” will be on display. So, after you see King Tut in SF, come and see King Adams. The San Jose Museum of Art, 110 S. Market St., is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., (408) 294-2787.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “And though it’s a part of the Lone Star state, people don’t seem to care. They just keep on lookin’ to the east. Talkin’ bout the China Grove – Oh, China Grove” – Doobie Brothers
