Whew. What did yall think of the Alex Honnold segment on 60 Minutes? You can stream the show in a day or so. I hope he got paid a bundle for that. Did you see the GoPro cameras? I have a head mounted one that I filmed going up the Half Dome cables. See my YouTube. It’s been viewed 2400 times. This should help first timers understand the difficulty.  Hardly the same as Brother Alex.

CBS has a segment on line called Overtime. Watch it now <here>.  It’s an interview with a cameraman – they used 16 cameras total to film Honnold.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.”   – John Muir

    CBS paid some token expenses.

  2. Jeanette K. says:

I find it moving that someone is so super passionate about something. He lives his life to climb. And he’s not doing it for riches or glory. Just pure love. He is awesome!

  3. Jeri says:

I just watched your HD cable ascent video. I’m glad I didn’t watch that before I did HD because I would have been put off by the number of people. I’m lucky because when I went, late August, mid-week, there were so few people on the cables that I made it up in less than 20 minutes. When you said in the video that you go from “board to board” I was thinking “bored to bored” watching all those people standing and waiting to go up. Booooring.

I’m a big admirer of Alex Honnold since the very first time I’ve heard of him. Having seen “Alone On The Wall” and almost any other video of him the 60 Minutes feature left me speechless.

I know – and understand – that many people call him “nuts” or worse but in my book he’s just an outstanding human being. And a very humble one. Just incredible. It’s like someone scoring 500 points in a single basketball game.
