A Sunday in March

The park is munching the Half Dome application data and will try to give the actual number of permit requests soon.  Remember, this whole enchilada is being done with NO extra budget.  And now we have the SAVEHALFDOME group with Congressman Tom McClintock shaking the beehive for a 3rd cable. Not a good time to be Park Super.  Regardless of your sentiment, Mason Harrison has done a good job for his cause – in this day and age, to get a Politico in DC to do anything is a miracle.

Is anyone going to join me at the Yosemite Conservancy Spring Forum???   I am cash poor, so will be staying Friday night at the Yosemite Bug hostel. It’s on Hwy 140 in MidPines. In a 4-person co-ed dorm. Bring your earplugs, Ladies!

Medical minute: I did 2 hikes this weekend in Los Gatos. St. Joseph Hill is only 1500 ft up but the Dr told me to build up slowly after dumping a Harley in October. Knee felt good but I do get tired after and it’s only 2 hours. But I’ll be ready for the Dome in June. All this late snow might impact the the installation of the pipes/boards onto the cables.  The last 2 years they were delayed – until June 22 last year – but that was almost 200% snowpack.

    hi, Rick,

men’s dorm at he Bug shows available as of now; women’s not.

be sure to bring your Yosemite Conservancy passport for 10% off Bug lodging and 10% off a fine meal at their Cafe. (which has great food and libations at wonderful prices, anyway!)

Good idea. I dug out my “Passport” – sez it expires Dec 31, 2011…but I’ll try anyway. When I booked it 2 months ago they said the men’s dorm was full and all they had was the coed one. It holds four. (I pity those women.) I’ve stayed in the men’s dorm. It’s like being in a submarine with a dozen or so men snoring and, er, well, “moving air.”

YC is weird. They don’t send out a “renewal noticve” like YC did. And no ID card. the passport is too bulky to carry for me. odd.
