Today we salute Janet W. who recently had one of those major milestone Birthdays. She was able to talk 16 of her friends into doing the hike to the summit of Half Dome with her. Imagine the challenge to get that many permits! But they did it. Check out these photos. Her husband made up special TShirts for the event. A play on my motto Carpe Diem.
They even surprised me – by giving me a TShirt of my own at my REI Dublin tlak last week. Cool.
She brought a bottle of Carpe Diem wine to Yosemite to celebrate after. Seize the Day!! Seize the Dome!! Happy Birthday Janet!

We are going during the week!! Heading out on Monday and hoping for half dome on Wednesday. Only two of us are going so we should both put in for the two day lottery? Wish us luck

Yes, both should apply…double your chances…name each other as the alternate. If you both win, you will be out the $4.50 to apply and $5 for each permit…well worth it. Give the extras to ohters on the trail.
Go for it!!! Let us know how it went.

Happy birthday Janet!! What a wonderful way to celebrate!!
Rick,
Do you happen to know how the lottery has been doing? We are heading up in two weeks and are relying on the lottery to be good to us!! Really psyched to climb half dome and would really be disappointed to not make it.

Hi Denise!!
Yes, they have been able to have the 2-day mini lottery for the 50 each day plus cancellations. This has worked out to about 90 total per day. Bad news is that only about 25% get them. My suggestion is NOT to go on a weekend. There are a ton more applying for Sat, especially (logical). So take a vacation day and go Wed or Thurs. Have all your hike-mates apply with you as alternate. ONLY the Trip Leader and alterenate have to be named at application time. More chips on the roulette wheel.
I say go anyway and ask on the trail if anyone has extra. The park wants people to cancel to recycle permits, but reality is that many don’t care to take the trouble to ask for their $5. per permit back.
Carpe Diem!!
