Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
It was a great day in Sonora today. I gave 2 presentations at St Patrick’s Church Hall. It was open to the public and we drew about 90 total attendees.
Welcome to our new blog readers from today! It was an outreach program of the parish. Sister Kathy arranged the event and it went very smoothly. The first talk was a motivational one where I use my Half Dome hikes as a metaphor for life. I tell personal stories to back up my points. The second talk was the classic Hike Half Dome one. I got pretty jazzed and went on for 2 hours. But the crowd was interested and many now will do the hike safely. Permits are key – remember they will go fast on March 1. And you better get valley accommodations lined up or you will have a long drive from motels outside the park.
A tip of the hat to Sister Kathy for her fine work. She is a 3-time Domer! We go snowshoeing Sunday. Nice.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “The true charm of pedestrianism does not lie in the walking, or in the scenery, but in the talking. The walking is good to time the movement of the tongue by, and to keep the blood and the brain stirred up and active; the scenery and the woodsy smells are good to bear in upon a man an unconscious and unobtrusive charm and solace to eye and soul and sense; but the supreme pleasure comes from the talk. ” – Mark Twain
