The Merced is almost dry, the waterfalls are empty and a few leaves are turning brown at Yosemite. But the crowds are gone. I’m staying in the Curry Village Tent Cabins and it is a ghost town. Good. No noisy talkers tonight.
Curiously, the Signature Tent cabins are not cordoned off. I was free to walk around and gawk at the structures that have taken 3 lives so far….so far. The ninth victim also stayed at the Signature Cabins and has recovered. They are patiently waiting for the 6-week incubation period to pass…hope the virus has a calendar and cooperates. There is some buzz that the virus may not have been spread by inhalation as thought, but through skin contact. Seems others in the same tent did NOT come down with the virus. Hmmm The park has been scrubbing every building to eradicate the rodents. It was time for a big clean up. They have sent warning emails to all 230,000 people who stayed in ANY lodging during the June – Aug window of concern.
Cancellations are flowing in and the Curry Buffet was a breeze to get in. The lounge internet is actually working with only 6 other PC’s open now. Ahhh. Post Labor Day is great. Darkness is coming early, so we will have to hustle our hike on Saturday. Highs in the 80’s are expected.
