A cold hike

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Saturday in the SF Bay Area was pretty darn nippy. I went to the top of Fremont’s Mission Peak to keep some level of fitness up. It tops out at about 2500 feet and our starting point was at about 500. It’s a great summer hike, but I felt like doing some hiking before the predicted rains hit. Shown from the right are Chris, a Half Dome vet, Bill a Half Dome virgin (June 23 planned), yours truly, and Santosh from Montreal.

That’s the funny part of this story. He is visiting friends in the area and is getting addicted to hiking. He brought his gear from home. He got on the internet looking for local hikes while he is here, and found my website. He wrote me and I invited him to join us. He hails from India but is doing PhD studies in Montreal. We had plenty of time to jaw about everything from hiking poles to outsourcing.  After, we had a delish lunch at the Ohlone deli. Nexst I took him to see the Outdoor mecca – REI. Santosh is here until mid-January so if anyone needs a hiking partner, let me know and I’ll hook you up.  Oh, it was pretty darn cold up top. I pulled out my gloves and ear warmer. Notice Bill’s blue legs. He was pretty anxious to head back down. Keep hiking or doing something to keep fit during the off season.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Oh yeah life goes on. Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone. Oh yeah say life goes on, long after the thrill of livin’ is gone. . . Little ditty about Jack and Diane  two American kids doing the best they can.” –  John Mellencamp
