Think about a 2015 half Dome hike – Plan it before the lottery

<<George Anderson Rembrance Hike Oct 12>>

The Yosemite Half Dome hiking season is winding down. Two weeks left. We are having summer weather still, so try the 2-day mini lottery and git ‘er dun!

NOW is the time to book your 2015 accommodations. Lodging at Yosemite can be booked a year (and a day) in advance. This is true for everything but camping and (Wilderness permits). I usually book 5 dates for a 4-person. I go for the tent cabins.  VERY close to trailhead.

I stay 2 nights.  The night before the hike and the night after.  When you book, you will be charged your first night. BUT if you cancel within 7 days, you get a full refund.

DNC runs the show on site. They assign tents a few days before your arrival (HINT … ask for the 700 series.) When you check into the registration desk, if someone bails out, you can downgrade to the 2-man rate. They will usually still put you in a 4-man – and at the 2-man rate.

Then you can play the March lottery. Pick the same dates as your reservations …if you win you are golden.  If you get none of your 7 choices, think about the 2-day. Or better, do another hike.

Don’t have regrets, Book ‘em Dano!

Unrelated thought worth quoting:
“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, But rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow-what a ride !”

    Clarification on DNC cancellation policy…

in case you’re wondering, you get your refund if you cancel 7 days in advance of your arrival (not 7 days after making reservation).

this generous policy is why so many reservations look full a month out but open up close to possible arrival time.
